AHIMSA HANDLOOM SILK CHADARS (scarf - blanket)
Our JEYA DAÏ ETHICAL CHADARS (scarf - blanket) are made from ahimsa silk in a rural village of India. The silk chadars is a natural fibre with exceptional product qualities. It is very strong and has a smooth though raw texture. The Indian farmers that make our chadars keep the Silk Larvae as housepets. Our so called ahimsa silk is a semi-rare but increasingly popular alternative to commercially produced silk. Because of the unique processing method, no silk larvae are harmed in the production of ahimsa silk. So only when by nature the silk larvae produces a silk cocoon, the farmers use the cocoon after the Larvae leave their home. This is the most sustainable and peaceful (ahimsa) way to make a durable slow product.
These cocoons are used the weave the chadars by hand, via a traditional proces called handloom.
Our Ahimsa organic silk is produced without the use of chemicals such as insecticides or pesticides. Furthermore it is processed without synthetic additives.
Silk is an incredible natural material with some amazing benefits. For instance, silk is:
- the strongest natural fiber
- a breathable fabric
- a natural temperature regulator
- smooth and gentle — ideal for sensitive skin
You can use the chadars as a scarf, a couch blanket, or meditation blanket.
